Yellow Palo Verde (Parkinsonia microphylla) is a flowering tree in the Pea family, native to the Southwestern United States and Northern Mexico. Near Las Vegas, these trees can be readily seen growing in gravel ditches on I-15 towards Los Angeles.
Palo Verde grow to about 25' in ideal conditions. They provide excellent filtered shade and privacy as well as habitat for local wildlife, and are great low water, low maintenance tree for desert landscapes.
Their beautiful yellow blossoms are also edible. Native peoples utilized several parts of this tree for food.
